CODE RED COMBAT TRAINING Pty Ltd is only a newly formed organisation. With the Owner and Chief Instructor (Mick Roberts) returning from Indonesia after training the Indonesian Police and Security services in the Riau Islands in Defensive Tactics and Tactical Pistol training.
In 1997 Mick developed the first Australian Army Defensive Tactis program for the Australian Army Physical Training School. He also developed and implemented Defensive Tactics packages for the following foreign Military Units:
Since returning back to Australia Mick has been heavily involved in training Tactical Pistol and Rifle. He is now attempting to expand the training of Defensive Tactics for Police and Security personnel within Australia. With the growing concern of knives being produced in most conflict situations, it is extremely important to develop skills to combat this growing threat, especially for the Security teams in Australia. To learn simple techiques that can save your and your colleagues lives against real threats. Also learning simple 1 and 2 man escort holds / takedowns to contain a possible threat or to remove an 'unruly' customers from Shopping centres / clubs / trains etc.. without utilising 'excessive force' and at the same time learning how to deal with persons carrying Edged weapons, broken glasses and bottles etc.
With today's society rapidly changing with a large majority of people going out 'armed' in public it is important you are ready for these threats if you cannot 'move yourself' away from these scenarios. if you are out with your family and you cannot move away then you have to deal with it.....are you ready for this type of confrontation??
If you have Security teams in your area and wish to 'upskill' your teams then please contact CODE RED for some priceless training. You will not learn this in any Dojo, For the weapons training (Pistol / Rifle and Edged weapons) you will not learn this anywhere in the civillian world today.
Contact CODE RED for you or your teams training requirements whether it be Tactical training with Pistol and Rifle or Defensive Tactics training for your security teams.
Escape from pistol unnder the chin - have to be quick on this one, however is quite achieveable if you get the footwork right. You are securing the hand to the pistol and if they hang onto the pistol they have nowhere to go but 'go with it'. If they 'let go' you just roll out of it and securing the pistol....
Your body weight is behind the strike, as you are moving forward striking the solar plexis. You end up locking the right arm up where you have the option to roll them over into a handcuff position or break the arm above the elbow.
I would like to thank Semps' from LEGEAR Qld for the sponsoring of the contact suit from HI GEAR. It is an amazing piece of equipment where you can use 'hard contact' without anyone being injured as it disperses the impact.
A slower version of the above
This scenario I had done to me whilst working in Indonesia (plus a few others which I will upload at a later date)....works a treat. The person has a 'strong' grip on the knife. Maybe an easier technique woud be to knock it to the side and strike or front kick, however you lose control of the knife hand. The idea behind the 'double tap' is to unbalance and restrict the persons movement as his knife hand will be locked to his side until you move it.
Very effective if they have a loose grip which you have to determine..... can always give over your cash too if you can get away.
Obstruction drill.
There is no need to drop the mag or put it in your (L) hand if you are right handed.....just put it between your 'pinky' and next finger so it is there ready to go. Of course if you were being fired at you would seek cover and do the mag change....
If you were under the pump and being fired at yes you may very well likely just dump the mag as long as you have a full one left to replace it.
Changing magazines on the move...empty mag....faulty mag and obstruction.
Mozambique Skill Shoot - Two (2) shots to centre mass and one (1) to the head - time allowed - under 3 seconds at 7m.
STOPPAGE DRILLS' ON THE MOVE
Afghanistan Training - This video shows breaking contact AFTER the Point Of No Return (PONR). This means we are on our way to a venue where there is a distance to be covered. The TL (Team Leader) will nominate a PONR whether it be pre designated or calls it as the team is walking to the venue. If contacted (shot at or attacked) after this 'designated point' then we break contact to the venue. The venue is already secured by an advance team so they would be 'support fire'.
This video shows teaching some Afghanny and US Military the 'tunnel drill'. Before we went outside the base we would do the training within the walls until they were good enough to go out to the range and go 'live. This was perfect to area to learn as there was a 'natural built tunnel' between the buildings.
Explaining actions on a 'stoppage' whilst breaking contact to US and Afghanny PSD teams.
Tunnel Drill 'LIVE' - An example of a Tunnel drill firing 'live'. A few minor errors on the stoppage drill, however this is where you want to make your 'errors..... at training.
There is an enormous amount of trust between team members. The method we train this is:
1. Walk through not firing (dry) x 5 times or until the guys have it and confident to go 'live' walking.
2. Walk through 'live' with a Saferty officer x 5 or until the guys have it and are confident to go full speed.
3. Full speed

It is a very 'contoversial' topic , however there are many Martial Arts clubs out there professing to know all about Edged Weapons defence, Unfortunately most are teaching things that will get their students seriously injured if not killed if attempting to use techiniques being taught in a Dojo. Techniques that only work with a 'cooperative' partner.
I will put the challenge out to Martial Arts instructors that teach edged weapons defence in their dojo to come and train. I am yet to see anything that has a good % of working.
Unfortunately even what is now being taught in the Australian Military has a very low % of being effective. The challenge goes out to the current Military instructors as well...no ego's no B/S just realistic training and you will see the 'dive and drive' is not effective against any 'real attack'....again... taught by people who have never faced a 'live blade' with the person having the 'intent' to cause you harm.
In saying the above lets be serious, people who are skilled in the use of knives, it wont matter what you know, as you wont even know you have been cut until you start 'bleeding out'. Lucky for us only about 5% who carry have those skillsets.
What is being taught under CODE RED is NOT a Martial Art or a 'style', It is a system developed to neutralise a threat as soon as possible, and as safe as possible using simple Gross motorskills under stressfull situations. Techniques that have been developed over 40 years of training with 12 of those years deployed in in War zones.(East Timor / Aceh / Iraq and Afghanistan). Spending 6 years in Indonesia where it is a 'knife culture' you learn very fast what is effective and what is not.
